Tournament hit by withdrawal
GUERNSEY over-40s are participating in a new tournament this week.
GUERNSEY over-40s are participating in a new tournament this week. The Sarnians will be up against hosts Jersey and the Isle of Man in the inaugural competition although, unfortunately, Scotland had to withdraw at the 11th hour.
It is hoped that in future years the tournament will be developed to include over-40 teams from Ireland, Holland, Denmark and possibly an English representative side from the Forty Club in order to build a strong European veterans' cricket structure.
The three-day competition begins with Jersey playing the Isle of Man today.
Guernsey enter the tournament tomorrow against the hosts and then they face the Isle of Man on Thursday.
All games are 45 overs per side and are being played to the same rules and points system as the GCA and CI Club championships.
Guernsey were dealt a blow on Saturday when Peter Vidamour broke a bone in his left hand when fielding during the CI semi-final, ruling him out of this week's squad.
Guernsey team:
Dave Hearse, Dave Piesing, Ian Damarell, Richard Headington, Carl Le Tissier, Tony Masterton, Gary Rich, Andy Burkhardt, Mark Renouf, Phil Challenger, Mick Fooks.
