Another Rich ton helps Guernsey to O40s win
VETERAN all-rounder Gary Rich scored his second century in four days after a drought stretching back twenty years.
VETERAN all-rounder Gary Rich scored his second century in four days after a drought stretching back twenty years. Rich added another ton to his name in the over-40s' tournament played in Jersey last week.
The Total Cobo stalwart had scored a crucial hundred to steer his team to victory in the GCA Cup final.
Just four days later he struck again when the chase was on to make Jersey's total of 248 in 45 overs.
He walked out with added belief after his headline-grabbing contribution to the victory over PKF Wanderers.
'I felt confident going out there and was seeing the ball well,' he said.
'It was a good run chase.'
He belted a rapid century, finishing on exactly 100 not out.
Rich's previous century before this summer was back in 1985 in an afternoon game against St Saviour's.
The bat used by the all-rounder for his most recent two was borrowed from Cobo teammate TJ Ozanne.
'I'll be keeping it,' said Rich.
He and his partners inflicted the decisive damage on Jersey in a devastating period of half-a-dozen overs when they scored at more than nine an over.
The all-rounder also took the vital wicket of Jersey captain Dave Gorman with his off-spin.
The second game of the tournament was far easier, with the three opening Isle of Man batsmen all going for a duck and Rich again taking the wicket of the fourth batsman.
Rich again finished the game not out, having contributed 12.
'It was a shame Scotland weren't there,' said Rich.
'It would have been good to have four teams.'
