THE top leaders of county cricket are coming to Guernsey. Chief executives have chosen Guernsey as the venue for their next meeting. They will convene at the Hatton Gallery in Castle Cornet a week from today to discuss high managerial matters.

Organisers are claiming a real coup for Guernsey.

It is only the second time they have met outside the UK and all but two cricket executives - who happen to be on holiday - will attend.

In terms of membership alone, the bosses represent around two million people.

'It is testament to the 11 years of hard work gone into putting the event on the map,' said organiser of the Lord's Taverners annual weekend Mike O'Hara.

'It shows that we have credibility and a good reputation on the county circuit and that hosting an event like this opens many doors for Guernsey,' said the organiser, whose tireless networking at the counties helped bring about the decision.

After chairing the meeting, Peter Anderson will fire the noon day gun.

In total, more than a hundred cricketers and VIPs are coming to the island as part of the weekend.

'They just really love coming here,' said O'Hara, adding that the superb pedigree of both sides speaks for itself.

The president designate of the MCC, Robin Marlar, officially takes up his new post on 1 October, the day of the Lord's Taverners Barclays Twenty20+ game between Gloucestershire Gladiators and his club, Sussex Sharks.

The two teams are bringing strong squads and Sussex have confirmed that Matt Prior, the wicketkeeper-batsman who has been selected for England's tour of Pakistan, will be returning to Guernsey.

On the same day as the chief executives' meeting, the Barclays six-a-side competition is being held at Port Soif.
