FORMER England Test batsman Allan Lamb produced one of the shots of the day at the Sports Commission Golf Day at L'Ancresse. Lamb, who was the Commission's special guest for the 12-team fourball betterball competition, eagled the par four 17th.

Having driven pin-high to the right of the green, Lamb proceeded to chip in on a day when he did not play his best golf.

'He hit the ball a long way oiff the tee, but not always straight,' saidd playing partner, Mark Clapham.

Lamb and Clapham's team - club professional Norman Wood and Peter de Garis were the other two members - finished well down the field on 82 points, 10 behind the winners.

That combination comprised John Goodall (12 handicap), Jeff Kitts (15), Dave Clark (18) and Andy Graham (23).

One point behind were the fourball of Bobby Eggo (+1), Ian Damarell (18), Tim Gisby (18) and Andy Hall (18).

Chris Warr won the prize for the nearest the pin at the last, his iron finishing just 64 and a half inches away from the hole.

SEVENTEEN of Jersey's best young golfers travel up this weekend for the Investec Guernsey Junior Open at L'Ancresse.

All told, 32 players do battle for the open title won last year by Jack Mitchell.
