TOP cricket executives have recognised Guernsey's emergence on the cricketing map. ECB County Cricket Chairman Peter Anderson, whose mother hails from L'Islet, said the small island was rapidly making a name for itself.

'Guernsey has a very good youth set-up and a rapidly developing reputation in the cricketing community,' said Anderson.

The Lord's Taverners county events have added to the island's recognition in county cricket and beyond.

Top clubs from all over England have started vying to be invited for the Twenty20+ Competition.

'Thanks to the work of Mike O'Hara, all the counties now have a weekend in Guernsey as part of their wish-list,' said ECB executive David Collier.

He used to work in a cricketing capacity in the 1980s.

He said the thing that teams enjoyed most was the informality of the occasion and the warmth of the hospitality.

The two men along with seventeen other county cricket executives held their meeting in the Hatton Gallery at Castle Cornet yesterday.

It was only the second time an executive meeting had been held away from the UK.

Only two executives were unable to attend due to other commitments.

Gloucestershire Gladiators and Sussex Sharks do battle in the Barclays Twenty20+ Challenge at the KGV tomorrow.
