GUERNSEY shot themselves in the feet as they lost their latest Powergen London Three South-West league match 19-13 away at Chobham. The Sarnians were looking to get their second win of the campaign on Saturday against their fellow league strugglers who had not scored a try all season.

With the score 16-13 in the dying moments, Guernsey had a chance to level things with a penalty kick, but decided to go for the try instead and failed to cross the line.

Chobham immediately got the ball down to Guernsey's end, where the greens gave away a penalty that was converted by Chobham's kicker. The penalty was one of several that the Sarnians gave away all match.

Guernsey coach Colin McLatchie was bitterly disappointed after seeing his team waste a golden chance to move up the table.

'We absolutely blew it,' he said.

'I've never been so disappointed in my life. We kept giving them penalties and it was touch and go at the end as it was a three-point game.'
