Nerine continue their top flight dominance
NERINE'S dominance of Division One is such that any game they play results in a one-sided scoreline.
NERINE'S dominance of Division One is such that any game they play results in a one-sided scoreline. Nobody appears to be able to give them a serious match and their B team were the latest squad to be swept aside to the tune of 54-20.
The Nerine Veterans' side takes some beating, too.
They continued their fine start to the campaign with a 41-31 win over TCCI and made the most of their opponents being a player short.
The Vets looked like running away with it when they led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter, but TCCI hit back well in the second and reduced the deficit to five by half-time.
Goal defence Jenni Le Cheminant was the main reason for TCCI's improvement, but the Veterans responded by upping the tempo in the third, prompted by some good interceptions by Lisa Davey, who was quick to feed on-form shooters Dawn Browning and Denise Bourgaize.
The match of the week saw Barclays Masters and P & J Conservatories fight out a 23-all draw.
Vanessa Marsh was a source of inspiration for the Masters and fully deserved her player-of-the-match nomination, as did P & J's Jan McCurdy, who controlled the attacking circle and was hot with her shooting.
Division Two saw big wins for Nerine E and Heritage One.
GMS did not know what hit them against Nerine E and were 12 goals down before they found the net themselves.
GMS made some tactical changes at the start of the third quarter, notably Cassie Le Page moving from GA to defence, and she proved her worth by making some fine interceptions.
Unfortunately, she could not stop Nerine's GS, Kirsty Young, who seemed to score at every opportunity.
It was not until the final quarter that GMS found their range in the opposition's D but Abby Lajoie's purple patch came too late to earn her team a point.
Heritage One ensured MPR Sarnians Three went home pointless, too.
Settling quickly and with their shooters finding their range, they romped clear to a 26-goal margin, largely due to player of the match Kim Abbotts.
Nerine G v. JT Electrics was a lot closer and the latter took an early lead thanks to good shooting by Andy Le Poidevin.
But the Electrics ran out of steam and with Tatum Le Patourel to the fore, Nerine G won by 12.
In Division Three, Nerine J took an early lead against Close Encounters but could not hold on to it and, in a low-scoring match, went down 15-21.
Good centre-court play by Nerine's Becky Isles and Close's Sally Ingrouille earned them the player-of-the-match nominations.
Elsewhere, Guernsey Electrics made Nerine H pay for having only six to start.
