'We have nothing to lose' - McLatchie

GUERNSEY will need to halt a perfect record if they are to continue their climb up London Three South-West tomorrow. The Sarnians travel to league leaders Camberley, who have won all nine of their fixtures so far this season, and coach Colin McLatchie wants his side to adopt a 'nothing to lose' attitude.

'Part of the motivation is that Camberley will probably look at this game and say Guernsey are third from bottom, they have won three of nine games, it should be two more points in the bag.

'Let's hope there is a bit of complacency on their part and capitalise on it. We cannot afford to be complacent because we are playing the top team.

'The point I have been making to the boys is that if they were head and shoulders above us, they would not be in this league. We are all in the same league and there is a reason for that, so we should not be overawed by the teams we are playing,' McLatchie said.

The loss of prop Simon Sharrott until after Christmas due to injury has been softened for tomorrow's match by the return of Steve Thomas after a back problem.

There is also a recall on the wing for Barry Goude, who will be playing his first match for Guernsey in this division.

'It is nice to see Baz back. He has been out for a while since injuring his cruciate ligament, he has worked hard and is pretty pumped about getting back into the team.

'He is well-liked and a good team player. He has also bulked up a little bit and, other than perhaps Jim Elliott, we have not had a Jonah Lomu-type big guy on the wing so it will be interesting to see what transpires,' said McLatchie.

Goude's inclusion is part of a slight reshuffle in the back division with Elliott moving to inside centre to counter the loss of GH Smit, who is off the island, and captain Andy Bailey playing at outside centre.

'If we had had this game last Saturday, I think the boys would have been on a real high after the 39-0 win over Tottonians the previous week. The confidence is still there, though, and it just depends on what Guernsey side turns up on the day,' the coach said.

n Brian Evans' Guernsey side lost their second match in the Hampshire Under-16s League in Eastleigh. The greens went down 22-7, their only consolation being a try for Nick Merrien which was converted by Matt Sawbridge.
