Yate await for juniors

THE GUERNSEY under-15s hockey team are hoping to show their senior counterparts how it is done in the HA Trophy tomorrow. Last weekend, the Guernsey first XI were knocked out in their first round of the national competition by Bournemouth, losing 4-3 after extra time. The junior side on the other hand won their first round against Plymouth Marjon in their under-15 equivalent and tomorrow they are in Bristol to face Yate Hockey Club.
Coach Nick Mahy has named the same squad to face a side who he believes will be no pushover.
'They have a few lads in the county structure so it's going to be tough to get a result,' he said.
'In training we've been doing a number of set pieces around the D and general play. We've got a good chance if we put away our chances. If we can win short corners and score from them, we've got a good chance.'
It will be a busy weekend for captain Jonny Clark and fellow team members Adam Clark, Tim Ravenscroft and Daniel Wray, because on Sunday, all four have been selected for a West of England trial at Millfield School.
'It will be a remarkable weekend for those four if we win tomorrow and they all get picked on Sunday,' said Mahy.
