MORE than 80 young players are expected to take part in the hockey season's first Collins Stewart Sunday morning tournament. The tournament will be held tomorrow and is a regular favourite with Guernsey's young players as it gives them an opportunity to experience a fun competition while their families enjoy watching the activities on the day.

Coordinator Bruce Spittal sees the event as the culmination of the hard work the youngsters have been putting in learning and playing hockey.

'Our Sunday morning sessions are part of the Guernsey Hockey Association's aim to allow as many children as much opportunity as possible to experience playing hockey and to get involved at the grass roots level,' he said.

'It is extremely popular and we are very thankful to Collins Stewart for supporting us in holding the tournaments which are always a big hit.

'It is a very social day and we hold a raffle with prizes donated by the parents, and as it's Christmas, we will be serving mince pies and mulled wine donated by Marks & Spencer.'

The age groups competing will be under-11s and under-14s with three to five teams in each group. Each team will play each other once with points awarded for a win, draw or loss.
