Brilliant Alison regains CI title

ALISON MERRIEN was back to her brilliant best as she regained the CI women's indoor singles crown on her home rinks at Hougue du Pommier on Saturday morning. Twelve months ago, the Guernsey number one suffered a narrow loss in the CI final, but this time blitzed the new Jersey champion, Gaynor Thomas, 21-7.
In one moment of true excellence, she moved from 8-5 to 12-5 with a full house of bowls all within two inches of the jack.
Thomas rarely had an answer to such pinpoint accuracy and when she did get into good positions, such as the three-shot situation on an early end, she could only stand back and watch Merrien kill the end with a deadly drive.
By the conclusion, a rattled Thomas not once but twice sent bowls onto the adjacent rink to disrupt the CI women's triples showdown.
Later in the day, Merrien skipped the home women's four to a narrow 18-16 win over the Jersey champions and there were also Sarnian wins in women's pairs and triples, Lianna Bichard being involved in both successes.
