PHIL OGIER was delighted at winning the Channel Islands Top 12 Tournament for the fifth time in seven years. The Guernseyman did not drop a match as he powered to the title in Jersey, having dominated the Guernsey leg.

'I've done pretty well in it but I lost out to Paul Marshall from Jersey last year. I'm pleased to get it back on Guernsey soil and not drop a game at all.'

Having won the Guernsey top 10 eliminator Ogier comfortably dealt with the cream of Jersey.

It was also a good day for Jez Powell who finished a very creditable second overall and did his chances of making the Green Trophy team no harm at all.

Powell beat both Jersey's top two of Marshall and Eugene Ellis. The latter eventually finished third.

Ogier's toughest game was against the Caesareans' veteran defender, Bruce Gallichan, who took him to a deciding leg as did Ellis. Other than that, he was rarely troubled.

Powell found the going a bit tougher and lost two matches against Trevor Le Febvre and Tom Quinn, but redeemed himself and secured second spot with wins over Ellis and Marshall.

James Lesbirel continued his good form with a great win over Ellis.

The other Guernsey players struggled against some good opposition.

Pete Bretel had three wins including against Le Febvre and Quinn, Gary Dodd struggled, though, and beat only Vincent, but this would have been a good learning experience for the 15-year-old.

Alice Loveridge, 11, incredibly won the under-18s equivalent.

The Guernsey juniors were totally dominant although Guernsey's top three, namely Scott Romeril, Gary Dodd and Adam Langlois did not compete. Still, they filled positions one to six.

Loveridge came out on top with an identical record to Ollie Langlois, both of whom lost only one game.

The rules of the competition meant that position would be determined by the result between the two players and on this occasion Loveridge prevailed by three games to one.

Mathew Stubbington came third with a creditabble nine wins out of 11, Liam Robilliard was fourth with seven wins just ahead of Paul Hainsworth also with seven wins.

Reserve Paula Le Ber performed well and was sixth.
