TWO Elizabeth College relay quartets have a chance to become the top English school team in their age group. Throughout the country every year, hundreds of schools take part in a competition to find the fastest relay teams within different age groups.

Time trials are held in various areas and the results submitted to the English Schools' Swimming Association.

The fastest 12 are then invited to take part in a national event, being held this year in Macclesfield, and both the Elizabeth College junior and intermediate teams have made it through.

Blanchelande Girls' College and the Grammar School boys and girls all have teams in the top 50 and Les Beaucamps teams all made it into the top 100 out of more than 300 teams.

'It is a credit to all the hard work which goes on week after week within clubs and schools to find the island has many teams which are high up the rankings,' said Brian Allen, Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association president and master in charge of swimming at Elizabeth College.

'It will be an exciting time when the youngsters will again show how Guernsey can compete at the highest level.'
