Lions A close in on title

LIONS A stand on the brink of winning the Doric Insurance Brokers League Division One. This week they had a comfortable victory over their C team.

Scott Romeril won three games for the A side, but was pushed all the way by the troublesome rubbers and good play of Steve Brouard.

The latter held a two-games-to-nil lead, but Romeril fought back to take the decider, 11-8.

Brouard beat Gary Dodd three games to one and Peter Bretel and Martin Sarre combined to take the doubles in the C team's only successes on the night.

Jez Powell also won his three games for the A team.

Whistlers B enjoyed a fine victory over Whistlers A by 7-3 as there were two shock reverses for the normally reliable Mark Pipet.

Gary Willcocks beat him 11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8 and Dawn Morgan did so in three straight games, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.
