HARDY bikers braved the wet weather to help raise funds to get a Sri Lankan hire motorcycle business destroyed by the tsunami back up and running. The Green Man MCC's members rode around the island on Saturday as part of their mission to raise £1,000 to assist Aid Reaching Children's aim to buy two new motorbikes for a young lad called Lucky, who lost everything.

'I think it's brilliant that they have even turned out in the rain,' said Arc founder Linda Garnham.

Green Man member Boon organised the event, but unfortunately the weather prevented a collection en route.

Members are already arranging other events to reach their target.

Members will be making donations and the motorbike community is expected to chip in.

Discharge has pledged a donation and the Kawasaki Centre has given £100.

'There were not many shiny bikes out today - all the dry weather bikers stayed at home. But they 'the Sri Lankans' lost everything in the tsunami and we are out in bad weather to give something back,' said Boon.

'None of us mind getting a bit wet to help out. We are definitely going to do another one and I would like us to reach our target figure.'
