Veterans Wright and Renyard show there's life yet in them
TERRY WRIGHT proved that he still has what it takes when it comes to racing against the watch by winning the second stage of the Velo Club's Easter stage race, a time trial over 10.5 miles.
TERRY WRIGHT proved that he still has what it takes when it comes to racing against the watch by winning the second stage of the Velo Club's Easter stage race, a time trial over 10.5 miles. Conditions were tough on the return leg and Wright was pushed hard by Island Games rider Graham Le Maitre taking the victory by a slim 9sec. margin in 23min. 55sec.
Good Friday winner Tony Bleasdale had to give his best to Wright and Le Maitre on the day and finished 18 seconds adrift of Le Maitre for third place.
The riders occupying the next five places were separated by only a handful of seconds with Mike Dean getting the better of Stuart Le Tisser, third-placed finisher in Friday's road stage. Alan Rowe and Rob Smart were similarly only separated by two seconds.
A fantastic performance from veteran Alan Renyard put him inside the top 10, a few seconds a drift of Lars Persson from Sweden and just ahead of Tim Holmes in 10th place.
The fastest woman was Caroline Wickham, while quickest under-23 rider for the second day running was Le Tissier. Callum Hill Smith and Nathan Baudins both produced good rides to finish as best under-14 and best under-16 riders respectively.
n Renyard produced a stunning ride to claim victory in the third stage, a handicapped 25-mile time trial.
On the west coast road course, riders were handicapped according to the best 25-mile time trial times from the previous year. As such, Renyard was able to capitalise on the superb training he has put in over the winter.
