TOTAL COBO did not let the absence of captain Stuart Le Prevost unsettle them last night. The island batsman missed the game with C&W Rovers after straining a hamstring in Sunday's defeat to Optimists - although he expects to face Elizabeth College on Saturday - and so Matt Oliver took over the reins and his bowlers did exactly what he asked of them.

A professional performance with the ball restricted the opposition to just 78 from their 16 overs.

The vital breakthrough was the first one as Richard Headington and Tim Duke had put on 40 for the first wicket, although the opening spells of Blane Queripel and Jamie Nussbaumer were commendable.

It was the latter who struck in his final over as his stand-in captain took a catch for the cameras - diving one-handed to his right.

From then on Cobo turned the screw with Gary Rich picking up three wickets, including that of top-scorer Duke, and Mark Renouf one. The skipper added three stumpings to his previous dismissal.

Oliver suffered a change of fortunes as he went for a golden duck at the start of the reply but TJ Ozanne and Robbie Moore took Cobo past 50 as they eased towards their target.

The loss of Ozanne for a well-compiled 26 began a flurry of quick wickets, including a couple of run outs, which brought a few late butterflies to the Cobo camp, but Nussbaumer and Renouf held their nerve to see their side home.

In Division Two, father and son Jon and Tim Ravenscroft saw Praxis Pessimists B home to an eight-wicket win over Sylvans A.
