BEAU SEJOUR BARRACUDAS have won the Bailiff's Cup for the third year in succession. They came top of the pile with a score of 277 points ahead of the Guernsey Swimming Club in second on 217, Tigers from Jersey 152 and Jersey Swimming Club on 29.

For the hosts, GSC, it was their best performance in recent years, amassing almost 100 points more than in 2005 and finishing a position higher.

The Channel Islands' best juniors aged from nine to 11

competed in all four strokes in the sprint distances in front of a huge supportive audience of parents and fellow team members.

In the 10-years group, Kristina Neves set new records in no fewer than four events, taking gold in the 100m individual medley and 50m fly, backstroke and breaststroke, as well as taking the gold medal in the 50m freestyle.

In the 100m individual medley, the Barracuda finished over 10 seconds ahead of the second-placed Jersey swimmer and knocked over three seconds off the record.

Another three seconds were slashed off the butterfly and the freestyle marks.

GSC's Leah Winberg was also in clean-sweep mode as she won gold in five individual events and teamed up with Courtney Chapman, Alexander Batiste and Ben Sangan to win the mixed relay.

Luke Winberg came close to matching his younger sister in the 11-year-old boys' category, winning four individual gold medals and a silver in the other event, the 50m breaststroke, in which, ironically, he set a new record in the heats.

It was one of four Winberg set at the meet.

Miles Munro, also in the 10-years group, broke one of the longest-standing records of the meet set way back in 1988 by Anthony Sandrey.

Munro swam in 34.43 to take gold in this event as well as placing first in the 50m butterfly.

It was the Barracuda 10-year-olds who obliterated the record in the 4 x 25m freestyle relay.

The team, comprising Neves, Munro, Katherine Jenson and Toby Belton, set a new mark of 1-03.42, smashing the record by three seconds.

The Barracuda 11-year-olds (George Moss, Oliver Nightingale, Cody Butcher and Lotte Parfit) also won their relay.

In the individual events, Harry Parfit dominated, taking gold for the nine-year-olds in 50m freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and individual medley, while teammate Freddy Moss swam out of his skin to take the title in the 50m breaststroke.

GSC's Batiste was runner-up on four occasions.

George Moss, older brother of Freddy, also won the 50m breaststroke in his age group in a time of 44.41, over a second-and-a-half inside his previous best time.

Barracuda captains for the 2006 event Alicia Munro and Nightingale proudly collected the Bailiff's Cup on behalf of the team.
