BOBBY EGGO came through strongly on day three of the only 72-hole tournament in local golf to grab a share of the lead in the scratch stakes. Eggo's two-under 68 - the best of the day - put him on the 214 mark alongside Jamie Blondel with just today's round to come. The latter shot a level-par 70.

They lead island champion Nigel Vaudin by one shot and Mick Marley, who led overnight, by four. The latter did not have the greatest of Thursdays, shooting 75.

The battle for the UV Trophy off handicap is no less intriguing with Eric Legg bouncing into a one-shot lead from Ken Carre and Julian Woodhard, after returning a net 67, a score matched by former Muratti footballer Henry Davey and youngster Sam Le Huray.

But the best effort of the day came from R. Allen who shot a net 66 off his 11 handicap.

Carre, the halfway leader, had a bad day.
