LADIES' COLLEGE beat Blanchelande in a last-ball cliff-hanger in the first ever match between the two schools. As girls' cricket explodes in popularity in the island, a match for Years 7 to 10 students was organised at Ladies' College.

The home side posted 77 for eight wickets in their 16 overs. Isabel Wray top scored with 22 as Francesca Bulpitt took four catches for the fielding side.

In response, Blanchelande batted well to find themselves needing nine off the last two balls to win.

Bulpitt hit a big six from the penultimate delivery but was bowled by Gabbi Gervaise-Brazier off the last ball.

It is hoped that the match will be an annual event.

'It was a good game and everyone played well,' said college's joint captain, Abi Monkhouse, 15.

'Hopefully we will win it every year.'
