TWO of the island's brightest hockey prospects played key roles as the west of England under-13s finished fourth of nine teams competing in the UK Regional Champ-ionships. Tom Still and Will Dovey were part of the side that went all the way to the semi-finals before losing against a very well organised Midlands side who went on to win the tournament.

It was a tremendous achievement for the two Guernsey boys who had to undertake two trials at Exeter University followed by three further training weekends when they competed for places against the best players from nine counties, including, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Glou-cestershire, Guernsey, Jersey, Somerset, Sports West and Wiltshire.

Dovey scored a few good sharp-eyed centre forward goals despite being taken to hospital after being elbowed in the ear by a Scottish opponent and Still acted as the 'wall' in his defensive centre-half/sweeper role.

The west coaching staff awarded Still with the team player of the tournament award.
