TOM HOLLINGSWORTH sliced more than three seconds off his personal best in winning a superb age-group silver medal in the 200m butterfly final at the ASA National and Youth Championships in Sheffield. Hollingsworth, who had qualified for the open semi-finals but chose to contest the final of the 17-18 years instead, clocked 2-03.53 to finish just over a second down on new champion, Stirling's Stuart Houston.
'It was an excellent time and more than a 3sec. PB,' said delighted Beau Sejour Barracudas head coach, Alison Frankland.
'He was due to swim well in the 200 fly,' she added.
Frankland said that along with Ian Powell, who was due to contest the open 200m butterfly final last night, he is making a very successful transition from backstroke specialist to the fly.
'Both have changed to the fly for this meet and both have come good.
'Tom was absolutely thrilled with his silver.
Powell's 2-01.66 in the semi-finals was an improvement on his island record achieved at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne earlier this year and Frankland is confident that both Powell and Hollingsworth will enjoy success in the weekend's 100m fly events.
