Stiff headwind could not stop the wheels turning
MIKE DEAN made the best of poor conditions to win the CI Lighting five-mile time trial promoted by the Guernsey Triathlon Club.
MIKE DEAN made the best of poor conditions to win the CI Lighting five-mile time trial promoted by the Guernsey Triathlon Club. He powered into a stiff headwind to record a time of 11min. 31sec. to finish ahead of Commonwealth Games triathlete Alan Rowe, who produced an excellent ride and clocked a personal best of 11-42.
Ride of the night came from series organiser Tom Becker, who took a break from timekeeping duties and finished with a time of 12-39 - a very impressive effort in what was his first ride over the distance.
Ann Bowditch was fastest female as she claimed fourth place overall in 12-21. Lyn Mahy took second in the women's race just ahead of Rachel Eeles.
Nearly half the field were female, which showed the growing popularity of women's cycle racing in the island.
Meanwhile, fastest veteran on the night was Dave Gallienne, taking the honours from Gary Wallbridge.
The final race of the series, a 10-mile time trial, takes place on 31 August.
