DAVE HEARSE has been given plenty food for thought ahead of selecting his inter-insular XI. Several of the Guernsey B team put themselves firmly in contention for a place during their 33-run victory over Jersey at the KGV yesterday with the island manager an interested spectator with the HSBC inter-insular less than two weeks away.

'Most places up for grabs are probably bowling ones and we got some pointers here today,' said Hearse.

Those who impressed with the ball were Pierre Moody, Aaron Scoones and winning captain Stuart Bisson.

Each took three wickets and also contributed valuable runs with the bat, although the man of the match was Richard Veillard for his vital 74 after Guernsey had slumped to 19 for three.

The skipper emphasised the importance of the win and the performances - individual and collective - with the main inter-insular fast approaching.

'That was a motivation for all of us. We all want to play in the A team game and we have not done our chances any harm at all,' Bisson said.

It turned out to be a mixed weekend for Sarnian cricket as both Randy Paddle Mavericks and Clubhouse Optimists failed to reach the last four of the KPMG CI Club Championship but the Guernsey over-40s won their annual clash with Jersey at Grainville.
