GUERNSEY will have two debutants in their ranks as they look to end Jersey's run of six victories in the junior inter-insular this weekend at L'Ancresse. Danny O'Brien and Jamie Le Page join what is essentially an experienced line-up that will be led by captain Emile Thompson.

New full island cap Sean Mills is also in the nine as is Tom Le Huray, the island junior champion who is reserve for the men's match at La Moye.

'This is one of the most experienced Guernsey junior golf teams that has been fielded for a number of years,' said GJGC president Chris Thompson.

'The Jersey team have four debutants and on paper have the edge handicap-wise.

'However, home advantage does count for a lot in these matches and while I am hopeful that the Guernsey team can win for the first time since 1998, I am sure the final score will be very close.'

He added that the two debutant deserved their place.

'Danny O'Brien has reduced his handicap to nine this year but has put in a couple of performances well below that score, particularly in matchplay situations, which is the format of the inter-insular.

'Jamie Le Page, while still very young having just turned 13, has earned his place through the consistency of his game.'

The match begins this morning with the foursomes at 9, followed by the afternoon fourballs at 1.30.

The concluding, and vital, singles rubbers are tomorrow at 8.30am.

'Our preparations have gone well with all of our team members having posted good rounds in recent competitions and matches,' said Thompson.

'As in the last two encounters which were very close, I am sure the outcome will be decided by who can hold their concentration and play the vital shot or sink the important putt over the weekend.'
