LES MIELLES' Ben Seassey shot a net 64 in the morning rain to win yesterday's Investec Junior Open at L'Ancresse. Approaching 50 players from around the Channel Islands and a group from Wrag Barn in Wiltshire braved the weather, but ultimately the top honour went to someone who was not even scheduled to play and went out in the penultimate group.

Seassey stepped in only when Wheatlands' Jamie Griffiths broke his leg, but he will have been glad of the opportunity.

Playing off 21, he won by four shots from one of the two girls in the field, Guernsey's Beki Le Cheminant.

Dan Lee, of Wrag Barn, was third after a net 69.

Guernsey's top boys failed to make the prizes.

Island junior champion Tom Le Huray had to settle for a 78 gross, while new senior island cap Sean Mills finished with a gross 75 after double-bogeying the 15th.

Junior Club captain Emile Thompson shot 76 despite a seven on his card.

'It was a very successful weekend with over 20 visitors to the island,' said GJC chairman Chris Thompson.

'We also had three up from La Grande Mare, which was nice to see,' he added.
