CONCERNED parents of Grammar School pupils are demanding an investigation following an alleged assault by a teacher. The unnamed person is claimed to have carried out an unprovoked attack on another teacher from Les Beaucamps at a local restaurant.

The victim needed hospital treatment although, as yet, no charges have been brought.

'It's a worry,' said a parent, who asked not to be named.

'You expect teachers to be responsible people and allegations such as these are a concern for any parent.'

Les Beaucamps head teacher Peter Le Cheminant was yesterday unavailable for comment, but Grammar School head Jeff Smith said he was aware of an incident allegedly involving one of his staff.

'I know that there was an incident and that no charges were brought. I don't know anything about the fact that the other person needed hospital treatment.'

Mr Smith said the teacher had not been suspended and that no internal action had been taken.

'Nothing has happened in school because no charges had been brought. We can't deal with anything in school until we've been notified about it formally.'

Mr Smith was asked whether he was content to have the alleged assailant teaching at his school.

'I can't say if I am happy about anything because I don't know the true story. I'm not really willing to comment any further.'

A Grammar School Parent-Teacher Association committee member said: 'It is not something the PTA would talk about. At this stage, we know absolutely nothing about the allegation.'

Police were unable to reveal any personal details, but could confirm that at about 10pm on Friday 15 September, a man was arrested on suspicion of assault at a Mill Street restaurant.
