THE Bachmann Cup is once again the property of Guernsey Vets. A brace of tries from the evergreen Jason Mroch, two superb scores from Tristan Boscher and a great solo effort from youth player Andy Rigden, the latter two both guesting for Vets, saw them shock Guernsey seconds with a comprehensive victory.

After the Vets opened up a 20-point lead, the seconds battled back into the game with a couple of tries from Jim Rowe and one each from Lol Hill-Tout and former first team captain John McQuaigue - a mazey solo run from his own half.

However, Rigden's try and a long distance penalty from club stalwart Mike Marshall saw the Vets through to victory.

'It was a great win. The first half performance was outstanding, especially that of Mroch, Mike Smith and Rod Keller,' said Vets captain Simon Graham.

'This season we have been able to schedule regular fixtures and it is really paying off for us.

'Although the bones ache for longer and the legs might not go as fast, these guys have great rugby heads on them, and today that was the difference.'

Guernsey seconds captain Jon Arch said: 'After last week's great victory over St Jacques, we were just too complacent today.

'We rested a few guys who have been playing through injury, tried a few different combinations, but that said, we have no excuses, the Vets deserved to win. They were the better side.'
