GUERNSEY'S under-17s retained the inter-insular crown with a 4-0 drubbing of Jersey at Foote's Lane on Saturday. 'I was really pleased for them,' said coach Helen Watts. 'We played some good hockey against a very strong team.'

Two of the goals came from dangerwoman Greta Raath with the others courtesy of Sophie Warren and Georgia Smith.

'Our strength was that we played as a team and not individuals,' said Watts.

'We passed the ball well and kept possession, but Jersey certainly had more desire than last year. It was an overall good team performance and it's encouraging for the future.'

Last year, the greens won 4-1.

The attention now turns to the under 15s who take on their Jersey counterparts on Saturday 12 January.
