L'ANCRESSE play hosts to La Grande Mare on Sunday in the first of this year's Hampshire Sevens inter-club clashes. The preliminary-round tie sees the winners go on to meet Alderney as the Bailiwick seeks to unearth a local representative to take on the Jersey champions in the Channel Islands qualifying final.

Playing behind the seven-a-side match on Sunday will be the Hampshire Greenjackets under-18s clash between the Guernsey Junior Club and the Royal Jersey.

Played off scratch, the three-a-side affair promises to be a stiff early test for the local club's new chairman, Bill Le Huray, and his talented son and GJC captain, Tom.

He is joined in the side by Craig Shorto and Daniel O'Brien while the Royal Jersey trio is headed by CI junior champion Gyles Robin.

On the domestic scene, Mick King and Dick Young have won the right to play new L'Ancresse captain Bill Crawford and his partner, Peter Blondel, in the final of the L'Ancresse Winter Fourball League.

King and Young came through their afternoon-section showdown with Alan Mahy and Geoff Meagher, recovering from a one-hole deficit with one to play to win on the first extra hole.

Young's par three was enough to square the match on the 18th and going down the first a second time he was first to find the green, with an approach to about 12ft.

With Meagher 30ft away and Mahy out of contention, King played a superb shot to just three feet.

Meagher's long-distance salvage attempt lipped out and King was not required to putt as his partner rolled his in for the win.
