MATT JENNINGS steps into the ring with a future professional boxer tonight. The Sarnian star's bout with Rob Boardman tops the bill at St Pierre Park as Guernsey take on a Bristol Select team in the latest Guernsey Dinner Boxing Club event.
'They were supposed to meet in Bristol last December but Matt was out with an injury to his shoulder. It will certainly be a bout to test him.'
It promises to be another night of top action throughout the 11-bout card.
Guilbert reckons James Woolnough and Steve Owen are particularly worth looking out for while the Alderney club are well represented once more.
He added that all the local boxers should be given a good test.
'Bristol are a strong team. Their coach picks the best that he can and there are a lot of clubs around the area so they will all be very strong lads,' Guilbert said.
Meanwhile, off the back of a hugely successful open show at Beau Sejour last month, the Amalgamated Boys' Club has had an increased number at training.
Guilbert reported that the newcomers range in age from around 12 to 19 and some of them are showing decent potential.
'The open show was brilliant and we have had 10 new ones come to training since then,' he said.
'It is hard to say how many will keep it up, but three or four of them look like they are going to hang on in there.'
