ALICE LOVERIDGE underlined her star quality as she won the recent Derby Four Star Open Tournament. The 12-year-old British champion came top in both the under-13 and the U15 open competitions.
Loveridge, along with Adam and Olly Langlois and Liam Robilliard, represented Guernsey at the prestigious tournament which featured players from England, Wales, Ireland, Russia, Sweden, Italy and Jersey.
'It was good. I thought I played quite well that day,' said Loveridge.
'I usually have a close match against Emily Bates. I played her in the final of the U13s and the semi-final of the U15s and I won them quite easily.'
In winning the U13 event, Loveridge only dropped one game on her way to claiming the title. The Grammar School student topped her group then defeated promising young Chinese player Tin Tin Ho 3-1 in the next round.
In the semi-final, the Sarnian got the better of Wales' Megan Phillips 3-0 to book a place in the final opposite England's number one Bates, who she also beat in straight sets. It was more of the same for Loveridge in the U15 as this time she only lost two games in taking gold.
After taking her group, she faced Bates again, this time winning 3-1.
She then overcame another the top ranked English U15 player Martha Travis.
In the final she came up against England's number two U13 player, Lucy Davison, whom she went onto beat 3-0.
Adam Langlois in the U18 open singles failed to qualify out of the group stages but he did notch up good results against the number eight seed Richard Marshall and Daniel O'Conell from Wales.
Olly Langlois also put in some fine performances as he won his U15 open group. In doing so he recorded his best victory in his career by beating England's number three U15 player Liam Pitchford 3-0.
Unfortunately for the young Sarnian he was knocked out in the next round.
In the U15 banded tournament, Langlois came runner up to Emil Aggestam from Sweden, losing 1-3 in the final.
In the U18 Open singles Langlois recorded some great results. He topped his group then went on to defeat Billy Deville 3-1 in the next round of the competition. He reached the last 16 eventually losing to the tournament number three, UK based Russian Vytas Rybakas 1-3.
