INVESTEC COLOMBIANS picked up their first piece of silverware of the season when they overcame Coreix Unwantables 3-2 in a close Investec Knockout Cup final at Foote's Lane. 'It was a very tight game,' said Colombians captain Kees Jager.
'They played awesomely and made it very hard for us. We didn't play the best we could have, but we stuck at it and we got what we deserved.
'We kept plugging away at it, even though things weren't going our way.'
The league champions found themselves one goal down at half-time thanks to Unwantables' captain John Bell finding the back of their net through a short-corner strike that took a wicked deflection off Colombians defender Richard Radford.
In the second half Colombians were soon level courtesy of a trademark drag flick from their island striker, TJ Ozanne, again from a short corner.
Matt de la Mare put the yellows into the lead with a great goal after an amazing run down the left flank.
With the clock ticking down, Unwantables levelled things when their playmaker, Andy Alford, produced a little bit of magic to defy goalkeeper Jager.
But straight from the push-back and now with a minute of play left, de la Mare again did the business to ensure that Colombians were awarded the cup amid wild celebrations.
They now face Beavers in the league play-offs on Saturday 31 March to see who is crowned the champions for
2006-07.
