GUERNSEY possess the two Channel Islands singles champions, but have lost their grip on the Green Trophy. Scott Romeril, 17, and Alice Loveridge, 12, swept to the individual titles at the FB Fields where Guernsey enjoyed another highly successful visit, tempered only by the late Green defeat for which the home side drafted in Craig Gascoyn, their new development officer, to play the annual men's team match and won for the first time in years. The result was 8-2.

The scoreline flattered the home side, said GTTA president Derek Webb. 'It was a tight match and they just nicked it.'

Overall, the Sarnians won eight of the 11 team matches and the aggregate trophy by an impressive 69-41.

The CI championships on Friday night saw the visitors win 13 titles and a six-out-of-six haul by the youngest of the Guernsey contingent Loveridge.

In the women's singles she defeated the highly-experienced Kay Lefebvre 4-2, the same score which saw Romeril overturn Pole Marcin Jurkiewicz in the men's encounter.

'It's been a very good weekend for us,' said Webb.

The 17-year-old left-hander was making his Green debut.
