IT IS hard to believe Jonny Warr had hardly scored a run this season before Saturday. The Elizabeth College all-rounder showed few signs of a lack of confidence as he dug his side out of a gaping hole with an excellent, unbeaten century to set up an important win over Mavericks.

Batting at number four, Warr walked to the middle with the students in a spot of bother at two for two, with Jonny Orme having claimed two wickets in his first over.

Warr soon lost another partner as Lee Gallienne rearranged Richard Angliss's stumps, but he batted through to finish on 114 out of 218 all out, hitting nine fours and a six.

Useful support came from Will Thompson and Jonny Clark, both of whom made 25, before Jack Byrne chipped in with 23 late on.

Mavericks, for whom Matt Le Tissier had been due to make his debut, but who was stuck in England due to fog, got off to a bad start themselves in reply as Chris Dravers and Peter Le Hegarat picked up a couple of wickets apiece.

However, Karl Ogier and Tom Kimber batted sensibly and put the bad ball away to give their side renewed hope but the latter ran out of partners as Mavs fell 28 runs short of their opponents.

Meanwhile, Championship leaders Cobo suffered a few nervous moments at Port Soif before seeing off a depleted Rovers outfit.

The home side contributed greatly to their own downfall, conceding an incredible 62 extras as Cobo racked up 242 from their 45 overs.

They were indebted to Gary Rich and Ben Ferbrache whose sixth-wicket partnership of 121 got them out of a sticky patch after they had been 82 for five.

Ferbrache fell just short of a half-century while Rich top-scored with 57 not out from 72 balls.

TJ Ozanne added the impetus at the end of the innings with a quickfire 27 from 13 balls, including a delightful six over square leg in the final over.

For Rovers, Stuart Bisson and John Videcombe picked up a couple of wickets each.

Ryan Bishop and Quinten Hubbard batted excellently at the start of the reply, putting on an opening stand of 124 as both passed 50.

Rich eventually broke the stand, taking a return catch to dismiss Hubbard, but Stuart Bisson joined the South African and the hosts pressed on towards their target.

However, when they were sent back to the pavilion in quick succession, Rovers' hopes ended with very little in the way of batting to come.

Spinners Rich and Jeremy Frith both bowled economically for Cobo while Mark Renouf finished with two wickets.
