GUERNSEY'S Glastonbury was a huge success. The annual Green Man Motorcycle Club festival at Pleinmont attracted more than 1,500 revellers over the weekend.

Club president and organiser Boon said it was getting bigger and better every year.

'This is Guernsey's Glastonbury,' he said.

'It hopefully offers something for everyone. We try to make Saturday a day for the families so the quieter bands will play and it's more of a family friendly atmosphere.'

He was delighted with the variety of people who had joined in the festival.

'We have had a really good mix. There have been a lot of real youngsters during the day and that's really pleasing because it shows that we have got the balance right.'

More than 40 bands played during the weekend and competitions were held in a variety of events, including best tattoo design, best bike and the burnout, in which riders had to doughnut on the grass until their tyre burst.

'During the night the heavier bands play and we divide the two stages up for different age groups.

'The outside stage was for the younger audience and we then had the beer tent for the older ones, where you can actually hear the words of the songs.'

He said he was really pleased with the relaxed atmosphere.

'This festival takes a lot of organising and there is a lot of money put into it. It's one of those things that you take a chance with and hope it pays off.

'I think the gamble has definitely paid off this year, it's been brilliant.'

More than 150 people went the whole hog with the festival spirit and camped for the weekend.

'The 18 to mid-20s are here camping all weekend and they are going to make a real good go of it to be part of the festival spirit, which is what it's all about.

'It's nice to be able to get the opportunity to come and live in a field for the weekend and do something a bit different.'
