SIX shots back going into the final round, Emile Thompson produced a storming finish to win the handicap section of the 72-hole major at L'Ancresse. And in shooting a net 65, one-over 71, the 2006 Junior Club captain ended the UV Trophy hopes of the current junior captain, Tom Le Huray.

In the end, just two shots separated the two youngsters who held it together while their rivals were falling by the wayside in the final round.

Richard Wellfair led going into the last round but his 73 was good enough only for third. Andy Howat was second with 18 to play but crashed outside of the prizes with an 80.

One player who rarely crashes is Bobby Eggo and once again he proved he is consistently the best player in the island with a superb two-under 68 to claim the Credit Suisse Trophy for the best scratch score.

His second straight sub-par round - four birdies and two bogeys - saw him just five over for four rounds and lifted him six clear of Nigel Vaudin, his nearest challenger.

David Rowlinson produced the day's only other sub-par round, a fine 69 despite bogeying the first.

Another excellent round came from junior Danny Carre who shot a gross 71, a net 63, by two shots the best of the day.
