ANN BOWDITCH was part of the ScienceinSport.com winning team in the national 50-mile time-trial championship held in Ware, North London. Bowditch went into the race only days after breaking her own local 10-mile record, giving her a great confidence boost.

The course was a rolling one comprising two laps of 25 miles and the Guernsey woman conducted a reconnaissance of the course by car the previous day, which provided sufficient information to plan her pacing strategy.

The midway time splits placed Bowditch 13th, however, a strong second half saw her pull back on five of those riders to finish in eighth.

'I didn't have much information out on the course but I knew at the halfway point I was slightly down on the rider who had started the race just in front of me, Helen Boatman,' she said.

Bowditch was able to pull back nearly two minutes on Boatman over the second half of the race.

The ScienceinSport.com team all placed inside the top 10, giving them their first team victory of the year.

Bowditch will not be travelling to Rhodes this year but will instead be competing with her team-mates in the national time-trial championships to be held in South Wales.
