Sebire adds second title to his CV
GRAHAM SEBIRE is the 2007 La Grande Mare Golf Club Lloyds TSB Men's Open champion.
GRAHAM SEBIRE is the 2007 La Grande Mare Golf Club Lloyds TSB Men's Open champion. In windy conditions on Sunday on the west coast course, the 49-year-old Royal Guernsey member shot a net score of 63.
The 12 handicapper, who is down to 11 after the weekend, finished level with 15-year-old Les Beaucamps student Dan O'Brien.
But he took the honours on countback.
'I was chuffed to bits as it's the second thing I've won. I won the UV Trophy a couple of years ago,' said Sebire.
'I shot 40 going out and 35 coming back.
'I missed a few birdies - I chipped one in and it came out again.
'The first six holes I didn't play too well but then I woke up.
'The conditions were quite windy and the pins were in tough positions. They were quite tough to get to. They were quite challenging and you just had to go for the greens, choose your shots and your yardage right.
'I just seemed to play it well.'
Whereas Sebire is pleased as punch with his win, O'Brien is understandably less so with his second place.
A misunderstanding cost him dearly on the final hole.
'I was five over after four and I bogeyed the last as well,' he said.
'I could have got par. It's a bit disappointing knowing that I could have won but I was pleased any way.
O'Brien hit 37 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine. That saw his handicap drop from nine to eight. He is in action again this weekend when he goes to Jersey to compete in the Junior President's Trophy at La Moye Golf Club.
Next month he will be a member of the under-18 Guernsey team which will take on Jersey in the junior inter-insular.
'This weekend is a warm-up for that,' he said. 'We're all doing well. It should be quite close.'
Countback was also required to determine the winner of the scratch prize after Paul Cosnett and John Le Lievre both came finished on 70. And it was teacher Cosnett who got his hands on that particular prize.
