LES BEAUCAMPS schoolgirl Beki Le Cheminant has won her first major senior tournament. In Thursday's treacherous conditions, the 14-year-old scored 40 Stableford points at La Grande Mare to ensure that she finished victorious in the Rothschild Ladies Open.

'Very emotional - she was chuffed to bits,' said her mother Sandra Le Cheminant yesterday.

'It was a lovely one. She did well in the wind and the rain but it was a hard day for them all.

'To come out with 40 points was very good.'

Le Cheminant got 18 points on the first nine holes, which was followed by 22 coming home.

Last month she reached the bronze division final of the Deutsche Bank Island Women's Championship at L'Ancresse.

Le Cheminant took up golf at the age of five and at the age of nine had her first handicap of 45.

That has steadily come down to the point where she went into the competition with a 24 handicap that has probably been reduced to 21 after her victory.

The talented junior is in the middle of a very busy schedule.

She is currently in Sevenoaks, Kent, competing at the Knole Park and Wilderness Junior Opens.

Next week she is off to Jersey where she is taking part in the La Moye Ladies Open.

In the La Grande Mare Ladies Open, Jean Mills finished behind Le Cheminant in second place when she accumulated 35 points.

Both Jayne Golborne and Carol Duncan finished on 34, but it was Golborne who took the third spot on countback.

Sue Wellfair won the scratch prize.
