MARK JEFFERIES ran riot at the KGV last evening. The Optimists captain saw his side in some trouble at 50 for four in the 11th of 18 overs against Chandlers so he simply took the attack to the opposition.

Having scored eight runs from his first 12 deliveries after coming in at number four, Jefferies bludgeoned his next 53 from just 23 balls as he found the boundary eight times.

That was after Gary De Carteret had ripped through Optis' top order with an excellent spell which realised the first four wickets.

The ever-reliable seamer's six overs cost just a fraction over three runs apiece and included the vital scalps of the in-form Tim de Putron and island star Andy Biggins.

But once De Carteret had bowled out his overs, Jefferies set to work as Chandlers' final seven overs cost them 89 runs in a total of 140 for six.

In reply, Chandlers fell 30 short with Dave Clark making 40 at the top of the order.

Meanwhile, Cobo had been hoping for more than 121 in their 18 overs against Griffins, but it proved to be more than enough.

Matt Oliver played the anchor role, patiently making an unbeaten 51 including five fours and a six.

Having lost TJ Ozanne and skipper Stuart Le Prevost early, the left-handed opener received vital support from Jamie Nuss-baumer, who hit a straight six and a couple of fours in his 37.

Cobo's bowlers then turned the screw with clinical efficiency, Jonny Warr picking up four wickets in a 63-run victory.
