DAVE HEARSE has been given plenty of food for thought after the Guernsey B team defeated Jersey B by five wickets. The island manager specifically waited to name his full island team until after this match to face Jersey this Saturday and he is expected to name his side today.

And a number of fringe players might have forced their way into the reckoning after a top-class bowling and fielding display at Grainville restricted the home side to just 154 for six off the full 45 overs.

Opening bowlers Pierre Moody and Pete Le Hegarat set the tone as Jersey had only 25 runs on the board with one wicket down after the 14th over.

Young Cobo quickie Le Hegarat is one player who could well have bowled his way into Saturday's game.

'The fielding performance was excellent and it was a fantastic opening spell by Pierre and Peter backed up by passion and enthusiasm by the fielders,' said Hearse.

'And they were supported very well by the remaining bowlers. Aaron Scoones bowled very well and the team kept their heads high when Jersey batted well in the middle order.

'Overall it was a great result and I'm very enthused by the attitude and approach of all the players and it's certainly given me some food for thought for Saturday.'

After Jersey's captain and best player Pete Gough, Edward Farley and Andy Dewhurst had been dismissed cheaply in the impressive Guernsey opening spell, Tom Minty and Sam Dewhurst dragged their team out of the mire.

In reply, the green caps were rocked at 10 for two before young Cobo pair Moherndl and Nussbaumer put on a 53-run partnership which set the visitors on their way.
