Women add to the entry
THE Garenne Seniors Championship is open to women for the first time this year.
THE Garenne Seniors Championship is open to women for the first time this year. The event, which begins today, has attracted a record number of entries, with 56 men and 18 females taking part at L'Ancresse.
The winner of the women's competition will be decided over 36 holes, with the second round played on Friday.
The men will play at the same time, but the top four after two rounds go through to the knockout stages.
'There are a lot more players than in previous years and it is going to be a real challenge to win,' said organiser Ken Tucknott.
'The favourite for the women's tournament is Jan Chamberlain and for the men it is Laurence Graham.
'It is his first year in the Seniors Championship, but he is going in as favourite because his is the lowest handicap.'
