Moody's excellent back nine wins a tight Frere Bowl on countback

STEVE MOODY is the winner of this year's Frere Bowl. A 12 handicapper, he scored 39 points to claim victory in the Royal Guernsey's Stableford competition sponsored by Sommelier Wines at L'Ancresse.

He shot a respectable 17 points on the front, including a 'blob' on the par three third, and an impressive 22 coming back in the quite tricky, windy conditions.

His back nine included four pars and a birdie at the 14th.

Trevor Le Pelley and Vince Aylward just missed out on the top spot. They were nudged into second and third place respectively on countback, with the same score.

Best scratch score of the day went to Mick Marley. He scored 37 points (69 gross) off of his one handicap.

Will Davidson won the junior prize. The 15-year-old scored 36 points.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Di Stenner on the third and Bobby Eggo on the 18th.
