VALE REC made their season's Youth Two intentions clear by trouncing Sylvans 17-1 at St Peter's. Exciting prospect Daena Bodie struck eight times, Bryce Norman, Jacques Ogier and Greg Roland grabbed two apiece and Ollie Le Prevost and Matt Renouf netted the others.

'We played some really good football and were 12-0 up at half-time,' said coach Carl Le Tissier.

'We have a very strong Youth Two set-up this year and I would have thought North and Bels are pretty strong.'

Le Tissier said Bodie is an excellent player who could have scored 15 on another day if he had taken all his chances.

And he firmly believes that Roland, who has made the switch to the Corbet Field from Sylvans, would be capable of playing Priaulx football now - if he was allowed.

'He is good enough and strong enough now, but is not old enough,' he said.

He believes the Star Trophy hat-trickster's best position is centre-back.

Le Tissier believes it is bad for youth football to see such a scoreline - but stressed it was not Sylvans' fault as they had only 12 players available and it was very difficult for them.

And for the benefit of youth and Guernsey football the former Muratti star is trying to convince and persuade five or six of the 30 youngsters in his Youth Two squad that they might be better trying to get a regular game at another club.

In a hard-fought match Rangers' new-look Youth Two side played their first competitive game for two years at St Andrew's and beat Bels 3-0 thanks to two goals from Jake McNaught and the third from Tristan Brown.

It was a fine all-round team performance with Alex Simon, Lex English, McNaught and Olly Shier all outstanding.

At a time when some other teams are struggling for numbers Rangers Youth Two now has a squad of 25-plus.

'Last year we struggled to field a team of 11 but this year we have 25 excellent players and will no longer be the walkover that other teams found us to be last year,' promised coach Dave Armstrong.

'There is a long season ahead but I have every confidence that our squad will do very well. Score a lot of goals and cause more than a few upsets,' he said.

St Martin's are also struggling for players at Youth Two level.

In the other opening Youth Two game Rovers were awarded a 3-0 walkover over Saints who could field only eight players.

'We thought instead of humiliating them we would take the 3-0,' said Rovers coach Mark Pemberton.

Saints president Henry Davey has invited anybody interested in playing at Youth One and Two levels to junior training on Mondays, 7pm, at Blanche Pierre Lane.
