Flying Jurkiewicz pushes Osborne to the touch
FOLLOWING his success at the Gasa 100m sprint gala, James Jurkiewicz seems to be the Beau Sejour Barracuda to watch at the moment.
FOLLOWING his success at the Gasa 100m sprint gala, James Jurkiewicz seems to be the Beau Sejour Barracuda to watch at the moment. Swimming the 200m butterfly in the latest event of the NRG Series staged by the Barracudas, he secured yet another lifetime best by more than five seconds.
He swam head to head with Jeremy Osborne throughout the gruelling eight lengths, just missing out on the touch to Osborne but in so doing recording his best time of 2-29.16.
Fourteen-year-old Victoria Parfit continued in her winning ways as she set a new record in the 100m individual medley event held on the same day.
Her time of 1-12.43, despite being just outside her personal best, was inside the age-group record set by Rachael Le Page in 2004 and the fastest time of the day and she is still at the lower end of the group.
The boys' equivalent title went to a good swim by Jacob Cherry in 1-08.71.
Great performances in the younger age groups came from Annalise Munro and Adam Ashcroft for the nine-year-olds. Both paced their swim well to just take the touch from Courtney Butcher and Thomas Nightingale.
Chloe Tostevin and Harry Parfit were never under any real pressure in winning the 10-year group, with Katherine Jensen and Miles Munro quite comfortably winning the 11-year-old section.
Lotte Parfit, still only 12 in the 12/13s, had her eye on her sister's record in this age group, but it was not to be. She still has another year in the group - her current time of
1-16.95 looks promising for the future.
A lifetime best for David Hall took him to first place in the same age group in 1-13.09.
Osborne cruised in to take the 16-and-over category along with Gemma Nicole who celebrated her second victory in the series this year.
Robyn Le Friec took the women's title in the 200m butterfly.
There were some great personal best times in the 200m butterfly event.
Cody Butcher knocked 24.5 seconds off her previous best to place second in a time of 3-11.93 to Lotte Parfit who won the age group in 2-55.63.
Joe Ogier won the 12/13 age group in a personal best by over 12 seconds - 2-54.23 - ahead of Oliver Nightingale who touched in 2-57.86 on his first attempt at this distance.
The 14/15 age group was won by Rosie Le Friec and Joshua Lewis the latter in 2-35.46 another personal best by over seven seconds.
