WILL WYATT'S dramatic injury-time try meant Guernsey were the weekend's big movers in London Three South-West. Effingham & Leatherhead came within seconds of ending the Sarnians' current purple patch, but the visitors had the last laugh to move up to second in the table.

Dylan Chatterton, the scorer of Guernsey's opening try, made the crucial score with a scintillating run.

'If we are honest, it was not a great performance, but all credit to Effingham & Leatherhead who played very well and had a great scrum that continually put us under pressure,' said Guernsey captain Andy Bailey.

'The most pleasing aspect was our willingness to fight right to the very end - we never gave up.

'We are going to have to step it up a gear or two for Winchester on Saturday.

Kiwi Chatterton was moved to fly half to stand in for the injured Reynalds.

But the reorganisation meant that the momentum the side had built up in recent weeks was jeopardised.

'We basically struggled to put any patterns of play together. This led to frustration and us giving away a few penalties,' Bailey said.

'We were looking like going in at half-time 9-3 down, when Cameron Patten made a break inside our 22, drew the last defender and put Dylan away to score under the posts, which was converted by Nick Barton and we went in 10-9 up.'

Buoyed by that try, Guernsey started the second half well and a Barton penalty extended the lead to four points.

However, the home side responded and enjoyed a strong period of possession which realised an unconverted try and a penalty in quick succession.

'They then sat back and tried to defend out the last few minutes,' said Bailey.

'In injury time we had a scrum on our 22, Dylan moved from fly half to outside centre and a long miss pass saw him make a brilliant outside break.

'He got all the way to the Effingham & Leatherhead line, drew the last man and put Will Wyatt in at the corner for the winning try.'

Guernsey replace London Irish Amateur as the team immediately behind table toppers Cobham.

Winchester, the next visitors to Foote's Lane, defeated Irish 35-11 on Saturday while Cobham came out on top of their first versus third encounter with Purley John Fisher.
