THE Guernsey Swimming Club placed 11th out of 16 teams in the final of the National Speedo League Division One West. The Rothschild-sponsored team travelled to Waterlooville at the weekend where they came up against strong opposition.
However, the squad gained eight first places and 10 second places and led the third-round gala, against eight other teams, all the way up to the final two events.
Ben Lowndes and Kristina Neves won two events apiece.
Lowndes took the 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke in very respectable times, but was pushed to his current fitness level.
Neves was the clear winner of the 11-and-under 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.
Other winners were James Hewlett in the 100m backstroke, Matt Butt in the 100m butterfly and Christine Hume in the 100m breaststroke.
The boys' 14-and-under relay team consisting of Hewlett, Pierce Gregory, Daniel Brittain and Luke Winberg were the clear winners in the freestyle event.
