Delighted Dawes nets a hat-trick in Sarnian win

GUERNSEY'S under-15 girls have emulated the island U-17s by achieving a hat-trick of inter-insular victories. In December, the greens' U-17s comfortably beat their Jersey counterparts to make it three years of wins and it was a similar story at Foote's Lane on Saturday as the home U-15s tasted success.
All the goals came in the second half.
'We gave ourselves a good foundation and when we got that first goal we were visibly more confident,' said Guernsey coach Helen Watts. 'I'm totally delighted with the win.'
The star for the Sarnians was 14-year-old striker Chloe Dawes, who bagged herself a hat-trick.
'I was really shocked as I never expected to get a hat-trick,' said the Grammar School student afterwards.
'I've never got a hat-trick and I've never scored in an inter-insular before. We've won every year for three years but most of the team haven't played in an inter-insular before.
'We've got a really good team and everyone is really supportive of each other.'
Neither goalkeeper was tested in the first half.
The home side certainly had the run of play but just could not convert their possession into goals as they lacked that killer edge in the final third of the pitch.
Jersey on the other hand never looked like getting close to Lucy Sharratt's goal.
After half-time, the Sarnians had more purpose about them and it was not long before they went ahead.
Megan Stewart, after a dissecting run into the D from midfield, found Dawes at the back post who hit a sweeping shot into the goal.
The second goal was also a joint Stewart-Dawes effort from a well-worked short-corner routine where Stewart struck the ball to Dawes at the left post for a simple tap-in.
Guernsey's third came 10 minutes later when Kristen Laine showed some grit to force the ball home after it had momentarily got stuck under Jersey keeper Harriet Neal's feet.
A minute later, Dawes wrapped up her hat-trick with another sweeping shot.
'After those 10 minutes in the second half when they scored all their goals, our heads went down,' said Jersey's coach Polly Hatley.
'It was a shame. They had some very strong players who dominated the game.
'I'd like to mention Megan Stewart and for us I'd like to mention Louise Mollet and Ever Taylor-Cox. They both had outstanding games.'
