Masters keep on winning
RICHMOND MASTERS maintained their winning form in impressive style last week.
RICHMOND MASTERS maintained their winning form in impressive style last week. Still on a high following a previous victory, they showed Sarnians Two no mercy and were always in control of the only first division match to go ahead.
Throughout the game, Richmond slowed things down, played at their own pace and put the ball in to the on-form shooters, Pauline Corlett and Julie Donaldson.
At the other end, Julie Wright, was giving the Sarnians shooters trouble as she was intercepting balls going into the circle as Richmond won 29-17.
Despite the defeat, indications are that the Sarnians defence is coming good and they seem to have found a unit who are showing signs of becoming a good team.
The pick of some fine Division Two matches was the clash of Heritage Hawks and Nerine G.
The latter took an early lead and opened up a 16-8 half-time advantage, but their rotation of a nine-strong squad was to cost them in the third quarter as Hawks began to claw back the deficit.
The final quarter was fast and furious with both teams making errors as they looked to win the game.
Hawks drew level and the sides continued to trade goals until the young Nerine G outfit had a chance to win it with 30 seconds remaining only to rush a shot and they had to settle for a 26-26 draw.
Elsewhere, PwC took an early lead in the first quarter against Guernsey Electric which they maintained despite three close periods after that. Martine Bougourd was shooting in place of Sharna Bunyan and doing a great job, even though she was under pressure from player of the match Kath Rabey.
The inter-club game between Nerine E and F was hard fought and level at half-time before E pulled away to a 25-22 win.
Abbey Bisson and Tracey Hunter were instrumental for the victors while Elaine Donaldson, Abbey Bingham and Kate Hageman caught the eye for F.
In Division Three, Marlborough overcame Autumn Gold 27-20 while Joan Ozanne, Cheryl Simon and Alice Loveridge shone for Nerine J in a comfortable 45-12 win over Sarnians Four.
Fairbairn Trust kept themselves at the top of Division Four although they were made to work hard for their 32-22 victory against Nerine L.
Meanwhile, Nerine K moved up a couple of gears in the second half to defeat KPMG 26-22.
